Michelle's not going to be teaching flute at YMP this summer. They got Stephanie McNab from the SF Opera instead. Gaahhhh. This annoys me deeply. I hate switching teachers. =( =(

OYO -- flutes got the Best Section of the Year award!!! It's like the first time for a wind section! It's always cellos and first violins--but no, not this year! I love how instead of having 30-something people stand up, only three people stood up to receive the Homer trophy. Haha, flutes are awesome. We're like the most varied group too: I'm asian and 17, Kelley's caucasian and 20, and Arty is Mexican and 22. Go diversity!

PAS -- all the groups were SOOO amazing. I swear we were so intimidated, but hey, we had terrific fun--and we won $200!!

Yeah. Excited. like, too excited for homework.

---

Except, I'm soooo tired. I need sleep. I've been running around fluting all day. Left the house at 9 am this morning, and got home like 20 minutes ago. ughhhhhhhhhhh (=____=)

Dealing with my AP post-traumatic stress by listening to Stravinsky and Prokofiev--basically music that my parents hate. My dad is a big lover of really romantic music with pleasant chords and moving melodies, so he has no tolerance for any form of atonality.

But I don't know. There's something attractive about Stravinsky and Prokofiev. I think it's the way they just let things rip. Their music can get so ugly and grotesque--so much that it's actually beautiful. That's what I call art as a reflection of life. Both Stravinsky and Prokofiev have melodies with such startling beauty weaved into their works, but I think both are aware that nothing in life is inherently beautiful, that there's always a juxtaposion of beauty and the grotesque, life and death, order and chaos. The essential arrangement of opposites makes things .. well, alive.

SF symphony is playing an all-russian program of Prokofiev, Stravinsky, and Rachmaninov this summer. Pieces include the Firebird suite, Lt. Kije, Scythian Suite, Prokofiev Piano Concertos (including the beautiful, beautiful No.4 writen only for the left hand), and other good stuff.

OMG. I will seriously sacrifice a leg or two to goto one of those concerts.

I will never have to take another math AP test in my life.

'scuse me while I hop to the kitchen and uncork the champaign.

(oh dear, but I'm definitely not looking forward to the grade reports in July. The bc ap was kinda hard. 9 hours of confusing math in two days has pretty much killed all my ugly little brain cells.)
